Cello Again Review
by Scott Yanow
Bassist Sam Jones, who had not recorded on cello in 14 years at the time of this session, sticks exclusively to that instrument throughout this enjoyable, boppish set. Altoist Charles McPherson helps out and almost steals the show on three of the seven selections, but the rhythm section (pianist Barry Harris, bassist David Williams and drummer Billy Higgins) is contentedly subservient to Jones, who takes cello solos on each selection.
