Ariel Brínguez is a saxophonist, composer and arranger. He graduated from the University of the Arts of Havana (Cuba). He has taught classes at the National School of Art of Cuba, in the specialties of Improvisation in jazz and Latin Music. He has also conducted jazz composition and improvisation workshops throughout Cuba, Quito (Ecuador), Edmonton, Calgary and Medicine Hat in Canada. In 2004 and 2005 he obtains the First Prize in the International JoJazz Contest, in the category of „Performance“ and „Composition“, respectively. At that time, he plays at the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival with Chucho Valdés and Irakere New Conception. Brínguez has played with artists such as Tata Güines, Changuito, Larry Willis, Horacio “El Negro”, Joaquín Cortés, Simply Red, Javier Limón, Perico Sambeat, Javier Colina, Ivan “Melón” Lewis, Alain Pérez, Paquito D‘ Rivera, Ojos de Brujo or Alejandro Sanz. He has recorded albums with great musicians and also has several records as leader of his own quintet. As a teacher, he has taught at the Olga Alonso Vocational School of Art in Cuba, as well as in Creative Music where he has taught Saxophone.
