Graffiti is artwork of the people for the people! Graffiti is an expression that challenges public space use, the notion of property, and illegal vs legal framework. Graffiti has always been considered one of the four elements of hip hop culture, the other being DJ'ing, MC'ing, and breakdancing. All four elements break through the norms and challenge ruling class ideology and consistently demonstrate working class and poor peoples struggles through their respective art form.
GRVR, a transborder and phenomenal artist, organized From The Border Vol 1 Art Show at BLK Box Gallery in San Ysidro, California. SYFER and SEURO are amazing artist and all three showcased their dope pieces on May 27, 2023. A beautiful sunny South San Diego day with the San Ysidro hills in the background we are constantly reminded of the heavy militarization of border communities and working class transborder peoples daily struggles. We are also reminded that that border and all national boundaries are just attempts to create second class citizens and in some cases servitude amongst the population in order to maintain a cheap source of labor for capitalism to thrive and succeed.
