Nobody can ignore Jeremy Pelt when it comes to heroic, majestic trumpet playing. The multiple Downbeat Critics Poll-leader has raised the roof of the BIMHUIS many times.
On his new album The Artist (February 2019) the famed American trumpeter/composer delves into the legacy of French sculptor Auguste Rodin. In the five-movement Rodin Suite he muses not only on works the artist left us, but how his art might have evolved if he were still with us today. His ensemble is capable of delicacy and color as well as full on contemporary jazz sounds.
Jeremy Pelt has become one of the preeminent trumpeters within the world of jazz, with a mighty sound that draws comparisons to legends such as Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan. Forging a bond with the Mingus Big Band very early on, as his career progressed, Pelt made name in many other ensembles such as the Roy Hargrove Big Band and The Village Vanguard Orchestra. In his own bands he makes every style contemporary, from swing and bop to soul- and rock-infused jazz.
‘Fireworks ignite from Pelt’s trumpet improvisations’ (Downbeat).
‘One of the few trumpet players that can mix with the traditional or future, Jeremy Pelt is making an impressive catalogue’ (Jazz Weekly).
