FLAMENCO BIËNNALE 2023
Vibrant contemporary jazz with a flamenco tinge.
‘Jazz and flamenco are brothers,’ says Daniel García Diego, one of the most exciting pianists of the new Spanish jazz generation. For his most recent albums Travesuras and Vía de la Plata he dug deep into the music of his native country, combining it with the vocabulary of the modern jazz trio. The result is an expressive personal style, in which rhythmic intensity goes hand in hand with melodic wealth and harmonic finesse.
Daniel García Diego studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston with Panamanian Grammy winner Danilo Pérez, who became world famous as the pianist in Wayne Shorter’s band. Pérez became Daniel’s mentor and played an important role in his development. The Daniel García Diego will perform as part of the Dutch Flamenco Biennial. For the ninth time the Flamenco Biennial will host concerts on our stage, with a focus on the crossover between jazz and flamenco.
