Recorded live at Yubin-Chokin Hall in Tokyo, Japan in 1977, Art Farmer's Live in Tokyo showcases the mellow flügelhorn master performing with an all-star ensemble. Joining Farmer are such legendary jazz artists as saxophonist Jackie McLean, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Billy Higgins. Essentially, this is the same ensemble that appeared on Farmer's 1976 studio date Yesterday's Thoughts. As with that album, Live in Tokyo finds Farmer and his associates delivering a thoughtful, romantic set of standards epitomizing the straight-ahead acoustic jazz style.
