Tuck Andress | Reckless Precision

AllMusic Review by

Tuck Andress is the instrumental half of the successful Windham Hill guitar and vocal duo Tuck And Patti. On his first solo album Andress's extraordinary technical skills and musical range are given center stage. For sheer virtuosity few guitarists can match his pyrotechnical wizardry. He has developed a unique style that allows him to play lead, rhythm and bass parts simultaneously, often at dizzying speeds, but never sacrificing warmth and sensitivity in the process. Recorded live in the studio, without overdubs, the material ranges from Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" and the garage rock classic "Louie Louie" to the jazz standards "Body and Soul" and "Begin the Beguine" to a Wizard of Oz medley "Over the Rainbow/If I Only Had a Brain." Three originals are included: "Sweet P," dedicated to his wife and musical partner Patti Cathcart, "Manonash" written at the tomb of his spiritual teacher Meher Baba, and the extended collage "Grooves of Joy." Though it was never in doubt, the aptly titled Reckless Precisionshould solidify Andress's reputation as one of the most brilliant guitar players alive today.
