AllMusic Review by

Hank Jones seems to have been more greatly appreciated in Japan than in his native U.S. at times, due to his busy recording schedule when he traveled to the Far East. On this solo piano date, Jones, always a masterful accompanist for singers and a heavily in-demand player for all kinds of recording dates, displays his elegant taste, imagination, and effortless ability to swing throughout this memorable session. Among the highlights are a perky "Satin Doll" that avoids the predictable clichés, the shimmering "Sophisticated Lady," and a somewhat Art Tatum-influenced treatment of "My Heart Stood Still." First released under the title Satin Doll as a Trio LP in Japan.
